Some time ago, the canoes were the main type of transportation in Canada and transported goods and people across the country. However, from the moment the steam engines were introduced, the need in paddlers that, by the way, were used to be called Voyageurs, evaporated. And, although, the canoe as a trademark and symbol of Canada still alive to these days, these watercraft keeps loosing its significance and popularity among the people. With today's inactivity crises and the country's quest to get more visitors, wouldn't it be a good time for the rebirth of canoes, and, not only for recreational purposes, but also to transport people to their destinations, at least where it could make sense economically and in terms of safety and practicality. The canoe taxi service, connecting the Toronto Islands with a congested downtown could be a good solution for not only reducing the ferries lineups, but help people to unwind, socialize, stay active, environmentally friendly and be aware of the elements, by staying closer to the nature and water. The extra 15 minutes, that it wold take to paddle the canoe across the harbour, verses the ferry ride, would only benefit the islands visitors (who would opt for the paddle), and not bite into their busy schedules. And, in terms of Canada's trademark, the country could benefit from being known as a place where people can hop on a canoe, to reach their destination, instead of a taxi or ferry.!

Toronto is situated on a lake, and protected by a harbour, that is surrounded by a group of beautiful islands. The Toronto Island Park is actually an archipelago, boasting some 15 islands and a network of numerous lagoons that are ideal for paddling activities. One of the ways for the visitors and locals to explore the city is to hop on a canoe and paddle around the islands, its waterways and the harbour. Not only you would have an opportunity for a snapshot of the best view of the city skyline, but also, will stay active, healthy and in shape. And if you choose to do this by paddling our 20-seat Voyageur Canoe, there will be a great chance of meeting the fellow travellers and making new friends - you are in the same boat, after all!
