The Voyageur Canoe is a unique a truly Canadian invention that was used to transport goods along the Canadian highways of the past - lakes and rivers. The people, mainly French-Canadians, who were paddling these canoes were called Voyageurs. They used to paddle all day long for a few month in a raw to trade european merchandise for beaver pelts with the native peoples. During their stops, along the way, some of them would acquire a native wife. Their descendants are called Metis people who now use the Voyageur Canoe as their logo.
